Biografia/Contexto
My journey started in a small village in the middle of the forest, on April 22, 1990. My mother is Belarusian, my father is Ukrainian. Back then, there were no borders between our countries. I still have a hard time believing that there is now war between them. A year and a half after my birth, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics collapsed. There was a terrible crisis: unemployment, hunger. I was at a simple school in the village, with no opportunity to take courses or see a tutor. I almost didn’t have a chance to go to university. But I have done the impossible. At 17, I entered the most prestigious university in the country: Sakharov International State Ecological University. During the next nine years, I completed my bachelor’s, master’s and postgraduate studies. And I started teaching at the university. At the same time, I obtained a degree in psychology, certified as a tour guide, certified as a massage therapist, and completed courses in Persian. But the year 2020 completely ruined my life. Unfair elections were held in Belarus. Protests began, followed by crackdowns and layoffs. All this was accompanied by violence and harassment. I was fired from my job and had to leave my country. I received help from The University of Humanities and Economics in Lodz, where I am currently studying. It was my university studies that gave me the impetus to study photography. And in this exhibition I want to show you what I achieved in one year. And so, step by step I go forward, leaving difficulties behind and believing in a promising future.
