Politécnico da Guarda makes available to all its students, at the time of registration, a webmail service that, besides allowing them to maintain permanent contact with the different dimensions of the institution, has associated a set of tools and software that facilitate the management of information and the creation of works.

All Curricular Units (CU) have their space in Moodle.

ACADEMIC PLATFORM (SIGARRA)

This is the online platform that integrates all the formalities of your academic life. It’s where grades are published or enrolment renewed, for example, and gives you access to a wide range of services and information central to your student life.

MEAL RESERVATION AND MENU

Meal reservations are made online by selecting the appropriate canteen and the desired meal.

Intercultural Mediation Office

The Intercultural Mediation Office of Politécnico da Guarda aims to contribute to a better integration of students from the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) in the academic community and in the surrounding community.

The Office has as main goals to identify the social, economic and human needs of these international students of IPG in order to provide opportunities and actions that prevent inequality and indifference. Internships And Career Prospects Office

The Internships And Career Prospects Office is the interface to support the integration of students and graduates of the Politécnico da Guarda into working life and, simultaneously, a hub of connection between each of the Schools of the Polytechnic and the Business Community. Promotes the social recognition of Curricular Internship as a basic and preponderant professional training in each Short Cycle Courses, Degree and Master of IPG, allowing a full insertion of students in the Knowledge Society.

Library

The Library of Politécnico da Guarda works in its own building, opened in 2000, with two floors, where you can find a series of services adapted to your needs.

You can get to know the available catalog, as well as all the services to the student community, digital resources and special actions in the Library’s page.

There you can also find out about the library’s timetable, which differs during school terms and vacations.

Mobility and Cooperation Office

The main goal of the Mobility and Cooperation Office of the Politécnico da Guarda is to establish academic, scientific and cultural cooperation ties with foreign similar institutions. This includes the various community programs to support higher education, such as ERASMUS, COMENIUS and LINGUA, and also agreements with other countries, namely Brazil, as well as coordinating the VASCO da GAMA program, of internal mobility between polytechnic institutes

The Graphic Arts service offers you an excellent range of services in printing, design, training, and binding of all kinds of work, on paper and elsewhere. It is located in the Central Services building and you can contact it by e-mail: artesgraficas@ipg.pt

Psychological Support Office

The Psychological Support Office of the Politécnico da Guarda aims to contribute to the well-being and personal satisfaction of the entire academic community, with a view to the academic success of students. Besides specialized consultations, it develops several personal and collective psycho-pedagogical activities.

Its also seeks to develop, throughout the school year, in collaboration with Student Associations, other IPG Offices and external entities, a set of projects/activities oriented according to the following two axes:

PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT AND PROMOTION OF HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

In this scope, the Office offers:

  1. Psychology Consultation – with weekly regularity.
  2. Actions to promote health and well-being behaviors – cycles of workshops including relaxation, mindfulness, hypnotherapy, laughter therapy, yoga, reiki.
  3. Prevention of substance abuse and other addictive behaviors – information, awareness, training and counseling actions to change attitudes and behaviors.

PSYCHO-PEDAGOGICAL SUPPORT AND PROMOTION OF ACADEMIC SUCCESS

The psycho-pedagogical support activities focus on three levels:

  1. Intervention at the group level – training sessions, workshops and projects to develop pedagogical and relational skills such as the “Sharing Space”, the “Difference Space” and “Peer Mentoring”.
  2. Intervention at individual level – support to study organization: study techniques and time management.
  3. Information through didactic material and IPGNews – themes of psychological and academic interest such as motivation, self-confidence, self-esteem, conflict management and interpersonal relationships.

PSYCHOLOGY CONSULTATION

Therapeutic space for individual intervention, weekly. The consultations are free of charge, with prior appointment required.

The clinical evaluation and intervention follow the Cognitive-Behavioral Model, with recourse also to other therapeutic approaches and techniques, namely Systemic Family Therapy, Ego-State Therapy and Clinical Hypnosis.

Main types of difficulties:

  1. Anxiety situations, assessment anxiety in exams, phobias and panic.
  2. Depressive/depression states.
  3. Situations of loss/grief.
  4. Social/relational difficulties (peers, family, community).
  5. Identity and self-image problems, self-concept and self-esteem.
  6. Additive behaviors (eating, gambling, internet, and psychoactive substances).

SHARING SPACE

Space directed to students during the course of their clinical internships. It aims to discuss, in a group, personal difficulties experienced during the internship, dealing with themes related to suffering and death, as well as related ethical questions.

Weekly. Enrollment required.

SPACE FOR DIFFERENCE

Information and support for teachers of students with special educational needs, concerning relational aspects and the teaching-learning process. Individual intervention with students identified as having SEN and requiring support. Awareness-raising activities for the entire academic community.

PEER-MENTORING

Mentoring program directed to students with the purpose of integrating the new student in the academic environment through his/her peers, students from more advanced years.

Monthly newsletter dedicated to students, where they can find support materials, useful for their academic life events promoted by IPG and the external community interviews with students and academic papers

Social Services

The mission of the Social Action Services is to improve conditions for academic success by providing services and support to students through scholarships, food and canteens and bars, accommodation and health services, as well as cultural and sports activities.

STUDENT OMBUDSPERSON

The Student Ombudsperson’s primary mission is to defend and promote the rights and interests of students at Politécnico da Guarda, in the Institution’s context, exercising functions with complete autonomy in relation to the other bodies.

The performance of the Student Ombudsperson is based on the principles of independence, impartiality, and confidentiality.
