The School of Technology and Management of Politécnico da Guarda is an institution of reference guided towards the needs of the region and the country, in a logic of cooperation with our surroundings and attention to the goals of our students.

Our mission is to train the staff of the companies that will populate our common future, providing quality education that helps anticipate solutions and promotes a critical and transformative perspective about products, services, and ideas.

Energy and Environment

Graduates in Energy and Environment have skills and knowledge in environmental impacts, energy efficiency and environmental audits and certification, pollution control technologies, the design and conception of energy production systems with special emphasis on the area of renewable energies, hydraulic infrastructures, and water treatment, in a scientific, technical, and professional context of national and international scope.

Equipment Design

Graduates in Equipment Design can design products and equipment, defining the style, shape, dimensions, colours, and general appearance, having the competence to base their action on studies on functional requirements, materials, manufacturing processes and techniques, cost limitations and potential consumer preferences.

They are proficient in virtual modelling tools in 2D and 3D (modelling environments and equipment), rendering, PowerPoint and digital photography.

They have technical skills to create innovative solutions and the ability to design projects according to their creativity and respect for rules and regulations and with concerns for society, art, the environment, and technology.

Human Resources Management

Graduates in Human Resources Management are professionals capable of facing the challenges of the effort of decentralization and de-bureaucratization of power structures, of increasing the quality levels of the products and services provided, always guided by the scrupulous respect of rigid ethical and civic-minded standards, to achieve the organisational goals.

Industrial Mechanics and Informatics

The Degree in Industrial Mechanics and Informatics aims to respond to the growing challenges of Industry 4.0, where the role of industrial informatics is increasingly predominant in the integration, control, and management of mechanical-based production processes.

Graduates in Management have skills and knowledge in management, associated with the economic and business sciences, in a scientific, technical, and professional context of national and international scope, covering logistical support activities for production and the provision of services in any economic sector and in all organizations, in all branches of activity. Those skills and knowledge cover the planning, implementation, control, and evaluation of processes that refer to human, material, property, production, information, financial, accounting, and other resources.

Marketing

A graduate in Marketing must be able to understand how the organisation works, its mission and objectives, the goods it produces/trades or the services it provides, to understand in a comprehensive way all aspects of Marketing and to know the economic-financial language that enables him/her to interpret the indicators of Commercial Management.

They must also be able to understand and anticipate the needs of consumers/users, plan and execute strategic and operational marketing plans, design and apply market research, market segmentation and know and apply marketing techniques.

Topographic Engineering

The Topographic Engineering course provides solid training in the different areas of geographic sciences, allowing for comprehensive professional opportunities and an easy adaptation to the demands of the job market. At the end of the training process, the graduate can integrate multidisciplinary teams to develop projects in the areas of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), multifunctional cadastre, hydraulics, planning and land use planning, among others.

Civil Construction

Specialized training in Civil Engineering, deepening the knowledge in core scientific areas of Civil Engineering, allowing the exercise of the profession of Civil Engineer, allowing the integration of graduates in liberal and business activity, in the framework of companies in the field, projects, consulting and construction and in the technical departments of municipalities and the Central Administration.

Integrated Management Systems

The Master’s in Integrated Management Systems (Environment, Quality, Safety, Social Responsibility) trains Senior Management in Social Responsibility Systems (NP4469-1, SA8000, ISO 26000), Quality (ISO 9000), Environment (ISO 14000) and Safety (OHSAS 18000), providing the knowledge and skills–both technical and scientific–necessary for the exercise of professional activity in these áreas.
